Chris Lee commented on a page
I'm disappointed in Style Caster, mainly the author of this
post, for the "we think people are too easily offended"
comment regarding Gisele and LeBron's cover shoot. As much
as I love fashion and this site, it is upsetting to see how
little respect or research she has done on this issue. Many
people were legitimately offended by this cover because
there is a long history of images just like this that were
used (and still surfaces from racist imaginations) to target
and discriminate against ethnic minorities. Ironically
(perhaps not surprisingly), this article just provided some
proof for that sad stereotype that fashion doesn't require
brains (especially when it comes to civil, human rights or
proper respect for history). This issue should have been of
greater concern to everyone not only in the fashion world,
but anyone who cherishes their freedom and are pioneers for
progressive thought. In fact, fashion has always been a
pioneering industry pushing the envelope of what was
"acceptable" -- why this? In the future, please ixnay on
the racist, ignorant comments and think of your true, broad
readership. Open up the conversation instead, do some
research -- it's not always about the fabric and texture in
this industry. -
