One of the highlights of fashion week so far have been the sightings of gorgeous red-headed Coco Rocha. I swear, the girl makes me want to dye my hair flaming red stat. Check her out getting her hair done backstage at Diane von Furstenberg yesterday. Tres belle, n'est ce pas? ...

As a self-proclaimed bookworm/nerd, I've always been in love with words. I read through the entire Young Adult section of Waldenbooks (ah, I miss that old 80s bookstore chain) by the time I was 8 years old and was onto such classics as Pride & Prejudice by the time I was 9. Yeah, I didn't get out much as a kid.
Anyway, this obsession with the written word has carried me through to adulthood and remains as strong as ever to this day. That's why I was so charmed by this little story on nymag.com in which they ask various designers to describe their upcoming fall 09 collections in one word (k ...

This season, 50 is the new 40. On February 14, just after the start of Fall 09 Fashion Week, one of fashion’s most famous icons, Barbie, turns 50. WWD reports that in honor of her birthday, the likes of Alexander Wang, Donna Karan, and Diane Von Furstenberg have been tapped to design outfits for the Barbie runway show during Fashion Week. The last time one of Barbie’s milestone birthdays was celebrated was in 1994 for her 35th when designers like Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, and Anna Sui were asked to miniaturize their designs. In more good news for those who like to play with do ...

A tote bag designed by Diane von Furstenberg for next week's presidential inauguration.
This is the kind of thing that makes me love working in fashion--it makes me proud when members of the community step up and get involved in bigger, more global ways. As a part of the "Runway to Change" initiative that was launched during Obama's campaign in which more than 25 designers designed special merchandise to help the now-President-elect, a second group of designers have created new collectible pieces to support the highly anticipated presidential inauguration taking place next week.
Included in th ...

It was reported today that Diane von Furstenberg has been named as the mentor to Alexander Wang, who won the prestigious CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund back in November. As a prize, he was awarded $200,000 to use towards building his business and a years worth of coaching and mentoring from a yet-to-be-assigned industry vet. I'm super psyched for Wang--I can't really think of a better mentor than DVF, who has managed to create a fashion empire, all starting from the strength of a good wrap dress.
Now, is it bad that all I can think is: Does this mean that I get to see Alex gallivanting with Whitney a ...

My parent + billions of dollars: if these words find themselves in the same sentence consider yourself lucky. That is unless your last name is Madoff or Bettencourt.
Liliane Bettencourt may not have a sum of 50 billion tied to her name like Bernard Madoff, but she does have 30 percent ownership of the cosmetic line L’Oréal. She is the granddaughter of L’Oréal’s founder, Eugene Schueller, and reported to be the richest woman in France. Turns out that, Bettencourt’s daughter, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, may not be the only one next in line to profit ...

Need an injection of holiday spirit? I've got just the thing for you. If you're in New York, meander uptown this Sunday to check out the Barneys' holiday windows. Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone, Proenza Schouler and Narciso Rodriguez, among others, are all debuting peace-sign-inspired looks in the legendary display. Commissioned by Earth Pledge, the looks are all dutifully made out of sustainable materials. My favorite outfit is the one sketched above by Rodriguez--do you see the peace sign along the torso? Clever, clever.
If you need yet another reason to make the trek ...

Tonight, the Museum of Modern Art celebrates the artistic talents of one of the most artistic directors—Australian Baz Luhrmann.
Lovers of Luhrmann’s colorful scenes from films like Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, and Romeo + Juliet (whose lush imagery and encapsulation of heartache and lust was burned into the retinas and hearts of an entire generation of teenage moviegoers), will appreciate that the MoMA has chosen him as the recipient of their first-ever film benefit.
Sponsors of a dinner and cocktail for the Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-winning Luhrmann are Men's Vogue and Lo ...

The vibrant area of Sinsadong (pronounced like Shinsa-dong) in the Gangnam side of Seoul is full of boutiques selling all kinds of expertly curated collections. My new favorite is 103.It’s hard not to love a store that has peppy music pumping through the warm wood-floored, well-lit shop with rows of one-of-a-kind pieces, colorful shoes, playful baubles, and artsy books. The walls are decorated with pages torn out of international fashion magazines so you feel like you are in the bedroom of one of the two adorably cute salesgirls who are gung-ho to hop online and check the exchange rate f ...

Diane Von Furstenberg embraced the hippie ideal when she sent her flower children down the runway. The hair was gorgeously wrapped in strands of silk flowers and feathers strung from leather cords. The collection is whimsical and happy--a nice interlude to most collections I’ve seen this week and a reminder that DVF will always design for a girly-girl.
Just when I thought I was finally ready to retire this from my style personality for the upcoming chilly weather, I’m reminded that it will be Spring again in no time. ...
