The obsession with the pinup continues. Latest blips on the radar: 2009 Vogue Paris calendar hit the newsstands and is a celebration of all things pinup. It-man photographer Terry Richardson lent his signature look--graphically sexual content in high contrast on a white background--to the fourteen shots of women including models Jourdan Dunn, Arlenis Sosa, and Ali Michael posing in Louis Vuitton underwear and heels, and channeling their inner pinup. Lately, I’ve been inspired by pinups. First it was the Vargas girl prints I saw on Broadway and gushed over with Elisabeth of Paris-based blog La Coquette fame. Then it was the Prada-esque turban my friend Musa rocked at a holiday party. Paired with red lipstick ad a jean jacket, she looked 50s glam and unfathomably cool. Now today we have the sad news that Bettie Page, Queen of Pinups, has died at age 85. You may know Ms. Page from the movie The Notorious Bettie Page starring Gretchen Mol (2006) or perhaps you recall Uma Thurman taking a turn as the whip-in-hand stunner in lingerie in ...

At her first show post-CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund win in late 2006, Doo-Ri Chung’s tops, dresses, skirts and party dresses were embellished with luxurious Swarovski crystals and encased in sultry black tulle. It’s hard not to look like money when you’re decked out in an encrusted gown. But the good news is that the Korean-American designer is launching a secondary, or bridge line, which will make her designs available to a lower-priced market next year. Despite the currently wintry season, French clothier Comptoir des Cotonniers (who recently opened their flagship in New York) was in spring mode yesterday, when they showed their Spring '09 collection on the runway at Paris' Universite de Jussieu. The brand, known for featuring equally hip mothers and daughters dressed in Comptoir des Cotonneirs in their ads, continued that vibe on and off the catwalk this season.
