When LVMH scion Delphine Arnault shows up at 10pm on a rainy Sunday in Paris for the men’s wear debut of an edgy, up-and-coming designer, it sends just the kind of shockwaves through the fashion world that gets the industry's hearts beating.
London-born Gareth Pugh (rhymes with “you”) has made quite a few waves in the industry since hanging up his ballet shoes and taking to the design studio (yes, he used to be a dancer…so maybe that’s the idea behind all the liquid black leggings) but for his first turn with a strictly men’s wear collection, the speculatio ...

Despite the heavy feeling of gloom and doom, the shuttering of stores, clothing lines, and other players on the fashion scene from fabric manufacturers to vendors, the shows will go on at Bryant Park this February.
IMG Fashion, which produces Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, had a briefing this week to keep everyone calm and upbeat about the state of the (fashion) nation.
WWD reports that 63 shows are confirmed in the tents, and IMG expects two more to confirm. This would only be two fewer than February 2008.Some designers, like Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson, have left the tents for ...

Uggs are over in the more fashion-forward parts of the world, or so some would have us know. But what other options remain for those who don't want to sacrifice aesthetics for comfort and warmth and functionality in the coldest months? This was the conundrum facing me as I prepared for an escapade to the Colorado mountains in January. I needed something warm and waterproof-otherwise known as functional-but that I didn't detest the sight of. Enter Sorel, the classic all-weather boot maker. The sight of these boots-black rubber bottom, beige nubuck top, fuzzy white lining-is so familiar, and such ...

For its tendency to be associated with kitsch, craft stores and shoddiness, “Do-it-yourself” has gotten a bad wrap in the past (although I still have positive associations of Todd Oldham on MTV’s “House of Style” giving tips on how to turn your dorm room into a tiki lounge. Anyone? No?)
Anthropologie, the more feminine, older sister of Urban Outfitters with pricier tastes, is now jumpstarting the DIY bandwagon again, hoping to keep its client base throughout the recession. The retail chain announced that stores around the country will host a series of reinvention w ...

What do Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Santo Versace, the late Gianfranco Ferre, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and Valentino Garavani all have in common besides being known as some of Italy’s leading fashion figures?
Now they’ve all been involved in scandals relating to tax evasion.
WWD reports: According to the tax office, the couturier and [business partner Giancarlo] Giammetti avoided declaring their incomes in Italy by moving their residence outside the country, while effectively keeping their business operations here.
The designer has been levied a fine of around 33 millio ...
